How to Calculate CGPA for IP University?

Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) follows a specific credit-based grading system. Understanding how your CGPA is calculated is essential for tracking your academic progress and planning for higher studies.

The Official CGPA Formula

The CGPA is calculated using the following algorithm provided in GGSIPU Ordinance 11:

CGPA = Σ (Cni × Gni) / Σ Cni

Where:

  • Cni: Number of credits of the ith course of the nth semester.
  • Gni: Grade points earned in the ith course of the nth semester.

Step-by-Step Calculation Process

  1. Multiply Credits by Grade Points: For every subject in your semester, multiply its credit value by the grade points you secured.
  2. Sum the Products: Add all the results obtained in Step 1 across all semesters.
  3. Divide by Total Credits: Divide this grand total by the sum of all credits offered in those semesters.
  4. Round Off: The final result is usually rounded off to two decimal places.
